Editorial Aside – Once again the state of my birth and residency has become a focus of the world’s derision. I would say laughingstock, but it’s not funny. Just a few weeks after the suicide of teen who was bullied repeatedly about his sexuality, the state legislature (I refuse to capitalize it) is proposing a measure which essentially legalizes bullying of gay students by “christian” (again I refuse to capitalize this word and I deliberately put it in quotation marks) students. At the same time, through gerrymandering, the progressive State Capital city has been politically neutralized. Can a city secede from a state? I’m finding it hard to say how ashamed I am of this state. As a Christian (though not one of those “christians”) and as a Tennessean (Nashvillian) I beg for forgiveness and pray this evil law does not pass.
